The 68 Mustang was bought in 2001. After watching a friend race this car at Irwindale Dargstrip for a long time and admiring it’s great looks and fast times, Vince and I decided it was a good time to buy one of our own. After a short time of looking, we got word that this car had blown it’s engine and the owner was looking to just sell the whole car. It was obvious that this was the car we wanted and it would be a perfect car to have. Originally, we were going to build the car as a mildly built street car for Vince to drive to high school, but as the project progressed it was too hard to resist putting the best parts and engine combination into it. This car quickly turned from a mild street car to a radical strip and show car. After the car was put together was when the real enjoyment and satisfaction took place. Driving this car to local car shows is always fun, especially when every eye turns toward the aggressive and loud sounding engine of the bright orange painted car. Not only does the bright paint and radical sounding engine make this car special, but also the perfect stance that this car displays. Being able to take this car to car shows is one great thing about it, even better is taking it to the track. The summer after the car was built is when we really got to spend a lot of time with this car at the drags and dialing it in. After many setup and convertor changes, the car ran a 6.70 at 104 mph in the 1/8 mile. This just wasn’t enough as we kept wanting to go faster and faster. Upgrading and trying different setups quickly came to a halt though when we were racing at California Dragway in Fontana. As Vince took his first passes down the 1/4 mile, one of our front tires blew causing the car to almost lose control and damaging the front end of the car pretty bad. The car is currently being put back together better than ever. The car will soon feature a super cleaned up engine compartment, new body and paint work, and possibly a nitrous system.
